Russian Prostitutes Seen To Pose Threat to Turkey''s Security, Economy

Report by Ersin Ramoglu: "Natashas Being Used by Secret Services"

The "Natasha [prostitutes from Russia] Trade," which started with the suitcase trade in the Black Sea region of Turkey after the collapse of the Eastern Bloc countries and which spread to almost every city of Turkey, has activated the National Security Council [MGK]. The "Natasha Activity Report" (NAF), which has been drawn up by the National Intelligence Organization (MIT), the General Staff and the Interior Ministry, has been sent to the MGK.

The report, prepared by a MIT official, two colonels from the General Staff and a governor assigned by the Interior Ministry, was drawn up after conducting investigations in the region for one month. The report warns that the "Natasha Trade" threatens the security of the state.

The team, which met with civil administration chiefs, security forces, and health officials, investigated the operation method of the prostitution mafia in terms of its economic, social, health and security damages with examples. The obtained results have been compiled under a report called the "Natasha Activities" (NAF). The report, which explains the activities and the damages of the prostitution sector, has been sent to the MGK.

The report sent to the MGK was indicated as confidential. The point, which has been emphasized the most in the report, is that "the Natashas threaten the security of the state." Following are the striking headings from the report:

Danger in Elections

*A majority of the individuals, who have financial gains from the NAF, show these women as married on paper and make them Turkish citizens. If no measures are taken, the number of people, who have acquired Turkish citizenship in this way, will increase to hundreds of thousands. This situation will become an important security issue for Turkey during the elections. It will also be an important threat factor in terms of the effect it will have on our human resources. The Turkish image, in the eyes of the societies, which are Turkey''s population regions and with which we have historical, racial and religious ties, is being harmed so much that it cannot be saved.

*Most of these women are university graduates and they provide the intelligence units of their countries with intelligence on various issues. It has been established that the intelligence units interrogate some of these women for days after they return to their countries. The state officials, who have been involved in the Natasha activities and who are in important positions, may leak extremely important information regarding the general security of the state, to these women. It has been established that some of these officials have illegal relationships with these women. It is known that the important strategic natural sources and the human structure [of Turkey] are being examined with this method.

Some $2 Billion-Outflow Every Year

The report also mentions the damage caused by the Natashas in the Turkish economy. The report emphasizes that the average monthly income of the Natashas, number of which has almost reached hundreds of thousands in Turkey, is $2,000. It is roughly estimated that two billion dollars is spent on these activities annually. Another factor emphasized in the report is that the youth is adversely affected by these activities. Here is a quotation from the report: "Especially in the Black Sea shores, thousands of students pass by the hotels everyday, in which such activities occur. The traditional Turkish family structure is harmed.

The rates of crime and [the number of] criminals have increased in regions, where the NAF is common." The report finally addresses the health problems caused by polygamy and illegal sex life. The report emphasizes that it has been established that some of the Natashas have been contaminated with AIDS [Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome], the century''s plague. According to the report, due to lack of a qualified health statistics system, the level of danger is not obvious enough. According to the experts, three women, who have AIDS, can contaminate 100,000 people.
